BSNL and MTNL will jointly invest approximately Rs 18-20 billion for laying an under-sea cable between India and Singapore, the tender for which is likely to be floated by March 2007. The submarine cable system, to be built by Millennium Telecom Limited (MTL), a 50:50 joint venture between the PSUs, BSNL and MTNL, will connect SouthEast Asia to the Middle East and eventually to the US and Europe. MTL has initiated talks with carriers and countries in Asia for landing station rights for its submarine cable project. It is also undertaking technical feasibility studies for the same.
