
The BPL Mobile Group has reportedly been approached by a number of foreign companies to form a strategic partnership. The foreign companies interested in picking up a stake in BPL Mobile include Hutchison-Essar, Bharti Cellular and STT. Foreign companies like Orascom of Egypt, Alfa Telecom, Systema Telecom of Russia, Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone, who are absent from the Indian market, are also said to be interested. Valued at between $900 million and $1.38 billion, BPL was on the look-out for a foreign strategic partner after its erstwhile partners AT&T, France Telecom and US West exited the company.
