
Bharti Airtel?s user base has reached 60 million in Africa, say news reports.
The operator launched mobile services in Africa in 2010. Over the last 12 months, the operator has added another 10 million subscribers to its existing user base of 50 million users a year ago.
Currently, Bharti Airtel provides mobiles services to 17 countries in Africa. Going forward, the operator plans to continue focusing on the rural segment. It is aiming at increased penetration, innovation and improved customer services to acquire new subscribers.
Also, over the last few months, Bharti Airtel has expanded 3.75 G data services across 11 markets and mobile commerce service, Airtel Money in 15 African markets. It has, over the last year, reduced the number of telecom sites running on diesel by more than 50 per cent by powering these sites through a hybrid battery bank.
