Bharti Airtel has decided not to introduce new tariff for its prepaid customers for the voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) calls. Earlier, the telecom operator had announced that it will soon increase the tariffs for calls made to customers using over-the-top (OTT) services such as Skype and Viber. In this regard, the operator intended to launch separate packs for VoIP services.

However, following the company?s interaction with the Telecom Authority of India (TRAI), Airtel has decided against implementing new tariffs. According to the company, TRAI will soon issue a consultation paper on issues relating to services offered by OTT players including VoIP and therefore believes that the consultation process will present a balanced outcome to protect the interests of all stakeholders and viability of the sector.
