Bharti Airtel is planning to bid for Millicom International Cellular’s (MIC) Sri Lankan mobile subsidiary Tigo. The acquisition of Tigo Sri Lanka, which is estimated to be worth $150-$200 million, is likely to result in making the operator the second largest telecom player in Sri Lanka, ahead of Sri Lanka Telecom’s subsidiary Mobitel. MIC has received expressions of interest for its telecom assets in Cambodia, Laos and Sri Lanka from several players such as Malaysia’s Axiata, Russia’s Vimpelcom and the UAE’s Etisalat.
