The Uganda Communications Commission has approved Bharti Airtel?s proposal to acquire Uganda-based service provider Warid Telecom.
The acquisition is expected to help Bharti Airtel expand its footprint in African region. Post-acquisition Bharti Airtel plans to allow the subscriber of Warid Telecom to retain their existing mobile numbers.
At present Bharti Airtel offers services in 17 African countries. As of December 31, 2012 the operator had a total customer base of 62 million in Africa.
