As per the telecom subscription data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India’s total subscriber base increased from 1,171.80 million at the end of October 2020 to 1,175.27 million at the end of November 2020, registering a monthly growth rate of 0.30 per cent. Further, subscriptions in urban areas increased from 647.36 million to 648.60 million during the period under consideration. The rural subscription increased from 524.44 million to 526.67 million during the same period.

The overall teledensity in India increased from 86.38 at the end of October 2020 to 86.56 at the end of November 2020. The urban teledensity decreased from 140.57 at the end of October 2020 to 138.72 at the end of November 2020. However, rural tele-density increased from 58.94 to 59.16 during the period.

Moreover, the number of broadband subscribers increased from 734.82 million at the end of October 2020 to 742.06 million at the end of November 2020, witnessing a monthly growth rate of 0.99 per cent.

Among operators, Bharti Airtel registered the maximum increase in wireless subscriber base during November 2020 and added around 4,370,466 subscribers, taking its total subscriber base to 334.6 million. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea lost 2,894,231 subscribers, and its subscriber base stood at 289.9 million, while Reliance Jio added 1,936,407 subscribers, taking its total subscriber base to 408.2 million. Meanwhile, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) lost 18,913 subscribers, taking its total subscriber base to 118.8 million.

Consequently, Reliance Jio’s market share by subscribers reached to 35.34 per cent, followed by Bharti Airtel at 28.97 per cent, and Vodafone Idea at 25.10 per cent, as of November 30, 2020.
