According to the minister of state for science and technology said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, the government’s sovereign multilingual artificial intelligence (AI) platform BharatGen is expected to complete its text-based services covering 22 Indian languages by the end of this month. The minister said the development of BharatGen is a continuous and evolving process, and additional languages and dialects may be incorporated over time as the platform matures.

Replying to a question on data sharing and pricing, he said BharatGen’s data will be made available to Indian innovators subject to specific terms and conditions. Discussions are also underway to offer BharatGen services at discounted rates to encourage wider adoption.

Further, he noted that graphics processing units (GPUs) are central to AI development, adding that large AI models often require access to thousands of GPUs. Under the IndiaAI Mission, access to high-performance computing resources is being provided to support such efforts.

At present, BharatGen’s AI models support 15 Indian languages, including Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Maithili, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil and Telugu.
