Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is planning to invest Rs 1 billion in the Odisha circle, say news reports. The operator is looking at acquiring about 5,00,000 new subscribers in the circle by March 2014.
Earlier, BSNL had to put its expansion plan on hold owing to the non-availability of the telecom equipment required for establishing additional towers. However, the operator has once again revived its expansion plan and has managed to place a purchase order for procuring the telecom equipment required to serve new customers. The delivery of the telecom equipment is likely to start from October 2013.
In addition to acquiring new customers, BSNL plans to extend its 3G footprint in the Odisha circle covering towns such as Aska, Bhanjanagar, Hinjili in Ganjam district.
At present, BSNL offers 3G services in 48 towns of the state. The service provider offers 3G service in Berhampur district covering towns such as Berhampur, Paralakhemundi and Chhatrapur.
