The Assam government has announced its plans to establish its own satellite for data collection and border surveillance for critical socio-economic projects implementation. Assam is set to become the first state in India to have its own satellite, providing services for agriculture, disaster management, infrastructure development, border security, and police operations.
The initiative will stimulate the interest of state students in developing experimental satellites with the support of Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The preliminary talks with ISRO have started.
