Anritsu has introduced W1 coaxial components to deliver precision performance and repeatability for high frequency measurements. The new W1 coaxial components include a three-resistor power divider, a two-resistor power splitter and a set of attenuators that provide coverage from direct current (DC) to 110 GHz, along with a 20-110 GHz directional coupler with performance down to 110 MHz.

This frequency coverage eliminates the need to de-embed adapters between native coaxial interface types, removing the need for calibrations between coax to waveguide, thereby saving time and money, and improving efficiency. These components have been designed to perform with Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) and low insertion loss. Further, these components remove measurement complexity, reduce measurement set-up time and improve accuracy, which make them beneficial for design engineers.

The components can improve measurement accuracy for better device-under-test (DUT) characterisation because they are designed with W1 connectors (with 1.0 mm compatibility) for broadband scalability and mode-free performance up to 110 GHz. The W1 connectors can also be used for high frequency designs such as on-wafer characterisation and measurements, characterisation of amplifiers and subcomponents in the automotive radar, and instrument calibration and characterisation in metrology labs.

Anritsu has also introduced the ACCESS Master MT9085 series of hand-held testers. These testers provide accuracy and broad measurement capability during installation and maintenance of fibre optic cables in long term evolution (LTE) and 5G backhaul, as well as metro and core networks. The MT9085 series incorporates a wide 8-inch colour touchscreen for enhanced operation and also integrates Anritsu’s innovative Fiber Visualizer as a standard feature.

The ACCESS Master comprises a built-in 8-inch touchscreen, a rotary knob and hard keys, which can help improve the optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) waveform analysis by increasing ease of use, thereby reducing on-site work time. Further, the Fiber Visualizer simplifies verification and reduces test time. Field technicians can use the tool to display fibre events such as splices, connectors and splitters as a schematic map. By eliminating complex operations such as reading and analysing optical waveforms, the Fiber Visualizer allows technicians to conduct high quality fibre measurements and pass/fail evaluations. In addition, automatic pass/fail evaluations based on preset threshold values reduce operator evaluation errors.

This series is capable of achieving highly accurate event detection. It combines all the functions to install and maintain optical cable in high-bandwidth applications. In addition to a full-feature OTDR, the ACCESS Master MT9085 series can conduct optical power loss measurements and fibre far-end detection. The portable field tester is designed with a unique algorithm that detects fibre events with high accuracy in complex passive optical networks (PONs) to reduce on-site workloads. It features high speed, high quality real-time waveforms, a short dead zone of less than or equal to 8 metres, a high dynamic range of more than or equal to 46 dB, and support for both single-mode optical fibre (SMF) and multimode optical fibre (MMF) waveforms.

Further, a flexible platform allows functionality to be easily added to the ACCESS Master MT9085 series. This series includes a high performance optical power meter and a visible light source, and an optical fibre end-face inspection function Video Inspection Probe (VIP) can also be integrated into the platform to create a complete all-in-one toolkit for fibre installation and maintenance. Measurement results can be managed easily at the central office using WLAN and Bluetooth connections.
