Chief minister (CM) of Andhra Pradesh has directed telecom operators to accelerate the expansion of mobile network coverage across the state, with a particular focus on remote and underserved areas.

During a review meeting with representatives of major telecom service providers, officials informed the chief minister that Andhra Pradesh currently has 30,694 mobile towers and requires an additional 2,310 towers to achieve comprehensive network coverage.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to strengthening communication infrastructure, the CM said the priority is to deliver last-mile connectivity by extending telecom services to even the remotest villages.

He assured operators of the state’s support in facilitating tower installations and asked them to explore the possibility of completing the proposed deployments within 100 days. He also directed officials to identify all uncovered locations and share the details with telecom companies.

Further, he mentioned that the greenfield capital city of Amaravati is being developed with an advanced fibre-based communication network that will provide fibre connectivity to every household while minimising repeated road excavations.

According to officials, Andhra Pradesh currently has an optical fibre network spanning nearly 170,000 km and more than 2.8 million broadband connections.

The chief minister also urged telecom operators to work with the state government to promote digital literacy among mobile users and support the delivery of digital services across Andhra Pradesh.
