Telecom and technology companies, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea Limited, Microsoft, Google, Meta, and others, have formed the ‘Safer Internet India (SII)’ coalition to combat frauds and scams in the country.

The coalition also includes BOOM, Dream Sports, Fortinet, Newschecker, Shiprocket, Truecaller, and Zupee, with Koan Advisory Group serving as the secretariat.

SII will focus on curbing fraudulent activities while promoting responsible innovation and digital adoption. The group aims to pool insights across various sectors, facilitate discussions among stakeholders, and share early warnings and concerning behavioural patterns with relevant government agencies and civil society organisations.

This initiative comes amid efforts by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to clamp down on spam communications and digital scams, which have adversely affected mobile users and, in some instances, led to financial losses.
