Airtel Africa has announced its financial results for the quarter ended December 2020. The operator’s reported revenue increased by 13.8 per cent to $2.87 billion with Q3’21 reported revenue growth of 19.5 per cent. Constant currency underlying revenue growth was 18.6 per cent, with Q3’21 growth of 22.8 per cent.

Growth for the nine months was recorded across all regions- Nigeria up by 21.6 per cent; East Africa up by 23.4 per cent and Francophone Africa up by 8 per cent. Growth was also recorded across all services, with voice revenue increasing by 10.4 per cent, data by 31.1 per cent and mobile money growing by 34.2 per cent.

Underlying EBITDA for the nine months was $1.29 billion, up by 16 per cent in reported currency while constant currency underlying EBITDA growth was 22.5 per cent.

Meanwhile, underlying EBITDA margin for the nine months was 45.5 per cent, up by 118 bps. Q3’21 underlying EBITDA margin was 46.9 per cent.

As far the operator’s operating profits are concerned, they increased by 21.8 per cent to $800 million in reported currency, and by 29.9 per cent in constant currency.

Moreover, free cash flow was $466 million, up by 20 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Airtel Africa’s customer base increased by 11 per cent to 118.9 million, with increased penetration across mobile data (customer base up 23.5 per cent) and mobile money services (customer base up 29.0 per cent). As per the data released, 2.5 million customers were added in Q3’21.
