Amid escalating India-Pakistan border tensions, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has instructed telecom operators (telcos) to remain vigilant, maintain a high state of readiness, and ensure uninterrupted connectivity.
Operators have been asked to keep an updated list of critical telecom infrastructure in border districts and ensure their functionality during any emergencies. They must also stock adequate reserves of diesel for DG sets to maintain continuous power supply to telecom facilities.
Further, the DoT has directed telcos to strategically deploy reserve teams, including repair crews equipped with critical spares, to enable swift restoration of services during crisis situations.
Additionally, operators are required to test their intra-circle roaming (ICR) facilities and seek activation approvals from the DDG (Disaster Management) as per regulations. All measures must align with the standard operating procedures (SOP) 2020 guidelines for telecom services during disasters.
The government has also called on telcos to coordinate with state governments for smooth logistical support and to safeguard key telecom infrastructure against potential threats.
