Admitting a petition filed by the Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India (AUSPI), challenging Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) regulation to reduce mobile termination charges from Re 0.30 to Re 0.20 per minute, the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has issued a notice to the regulator. In a regulation dated March 9, 2009, TRAI had reduced the termination charges for all types of domestic calls such as landline-to-landline, landline-tomobile, mobile-to-landline and mobile-to-mobile. AUSPI, however, believes that TRAI’s calculation of cost of termination was not based on a correct methodology.
