According to news reports, Bharti Cellular will pump in over Rs A 1 billion across Assam and the north-east in March 2005. The company will initially launch GSM services in Assam and the north-eastern state capitals Guwahati, Shillong, Agartala, Imphal, Itanagar, Aizawl and Kohima. This will entail an investment of Rs 10 billion across the north-eastern states. Following this, Bharti’s regional footprint will comprise West Bengal, Bihar/Jharkhand, Orissa, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Agartala, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. Bharti will be the third GSM service provider in the Assam/northeast circles after BSNL and Reliance Telecom.
