International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Group (ITU-R) has approved the proposal of the ITU-APT Foundation of India (IAFI) to develop a global report on the use of mobile technologies for financial inclusion including India’s experience with unified payments interface (UPI) payments, at the 45th meeting of the Working Party SD (WPSD) of the ITU-R sector.

According to the IAFI, six of its proposals, including the use of radio spectrum above 100GHz band for 5G and 6G in the future, the commencement of detailed studies into three new spectrum bands allocated by the ITU for 5G/6G, and airwaves to be shared with mobile satellite services (MSS) for providing coverage in remote/rural areas were discussed and widely approved at the ITU Radio Group.

In addition, IAFI’s submission on the ‘Financial Applications of Mobile Technologies’ presented India’s UPI as a prime example of a fully secured, reliable and fastest financial payment application as one of the most important goals achieved under the Digital India initiative.
