As per WhatsApp India’s ‘User Safety Monthly Report’ under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2022, WhatsApp messenger has banned a total of over 6.6 million accounts in India in June 2023.

As per the report, between June 1, 2023, and June 30, 2023, 6,611,700 WhatsApp accounts were banned and 2,434,200 of these accounts were proactively banned, before any reports from users. In June 2023, the messaging platform in the nation received a record 7,893 complaint reports, and 337 of those records were actioned.

As per the company’s report, there was one order received from the newly established panel, Grievance Appellate Committee, which was complied with promptly.
