According to sources, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will release a public consultation paper to discuss regulations on over-the-top (OTT) framework, including internet-based calling, messaging and entertainment apps in December 2022. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has sought recommendations from TRAI to set up a legal framework for the OTT apps that provide calling and messaging services.
TRAI officials will make presentation on OTT on November 25, 2022, after which issues for discussion will be framed and a consultation paper will be issued for the same in December 2022.
