As per industry sources, Reliance Jio has written to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), complaining that the new tariff structure of Vodafone Idea (Vi) allegedly restricts entry-level customers to port their mobile number from its network.
Under the new tariff structure, Vi has increased the entry level plan from Rs 75 to Rs 99. This entry-level plan of Vi comes with 28 days validity but is not bundled with SMS service.
Jio has complained to TRAI that Vi’s new tariff restricts people opting for low value plans from porting their mobile number, as outgoing SMS facility is not available in the entry level plans of Vi.
According to the Jio complaint, Vi is providing SMS service in plans priced at Rs 179 and above, thereby restricting low value plan subscribers from porting facility. For opting porting facility users need to have an active SMS service on their existing sim card.
It is therefore alleged that the move of Vi is to abstain the consumers from moving to other telecom networks for better services.
