RailTel is planning to provide affordable internet connectivity to the villagers of Jharkhand and Maharashtra. A proposal regarding the same is under review with Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
The company intends to use rural point-of-presence (PoP) Wi-Fi networks at stations to deliver broadband services to villagers in Jharkhand and Maharashtra in 10 kilometer radius in the first and second phases.
The implementation of the plan will help harnessing the entrepreneurial spirit of village youth and generating job opportunities and facilitating transparency in delivery of citizen centric services.
Further, it will also facilitate ease of doing business and encourage local shops and small establishments to become Wi-Fi providers.
