Digital communications services provider Tanla Platforms has partnered with Bharti Airtel to enable rich communication services (RCS) messaging for businesses on the operator’s network. The agreement follows a similar deal with Vodafone Idea Limited, giving Tanla access to two of India’s three private telecom operators. With all three operators, including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, now having embraced RCS, the technology is gaining meaningful traction across India’s telecom ecosystem.

Tanla currently processes approximately 35 billion RCS messages annually, accounting for nearly 80 per cent of India’s total RCS traffic. The company estimates that the Airtel partnership could help scale its overall RCS volumes to 100 billion messages within two years, reflecting the significant growth headroom in the segment.

At present, Google Messages remains the primary driver of RCS adoption in India, processing around one billion messages daily.
