Employee unions of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have reportedly written to the prime minister of India, requesting that all government offices, departments and public sector undertakings (PSUs) be directed to mandatorily adopt the telco’s 4G services to support the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The association has called on the prime minister’s office to enforce the use of BSNL’s 4G services across central and state government organisations, PSUs, and among employees who claim reimbursement for mobile expenses from public funds for official communication.
According to the unions, such a move would strengthen national security and data sovereignty, provide financial backing to BSNL, ensure better utilisation of public funds, and accelerate the development of a domestic telecom ecosystem.
