India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is accelerating plans to set up 50 artificial intelligence (AI) curation units across various government departments. These teams will sift through non-personal government data, such as health statistics, crop surveys, and maps, to identify valuable datasets for the IndiaAI Datasets Platform, known as AIKosh.

The project began nearly two years ago but faced delays as some ministries had their own data systems in place. The remaining 20 units are now on track to be launched shortly. By consolidating scattered datasets, MeitY hopes to develop more capable AI models that can improve public services and support better decision-making in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, and logistics.
