As per the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio gained 5.43 million and 2.96 million wireless (mobile) subscribers respectively, while Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) lost 0.94 million and 0.21 million subscribers month-on-month during December 2025. Meanwhile, the wireless subscriber base of Airtel and Jio increased to 463.38 million and 489.05 million respectively. In addition, Vi’s and BSNL’s user base shrank to 198.71 million and 92.76 million.

Besides, TRAI data showed that Jio gained 1.23 million while Airtel, Vi and BSNL lost 0.097 million, 0.94 million and 0.08 million respectively in rural India for wireless. The data released by the regulator also showed that overall wireless tele-density increased to 91.74 per cent in December 2025 from 86.77 per cent in November 2025.

Separately, TRAI data showed that Airtel and Jio gained 0.18 million and 0.20 million wireline users, increasing their landline user base to 10.95 million and 14.75 million respectively. Meanwhile, BSNL and Vi saw marginal loss of 0.02 million and 0.01 million users.

Further, the month of December 2025 witnessed Airtel widening its wireless customer market share to 37.24 per cent, up from 33.64 per cent in the previous month. Furthermore, Vi, Jio and BSNL narrowed its customer base to 15.98 per cent, 39.31 per cent and 7.46 per cent as against 17.01 per cent, 41.41 per cent and 7.92 per cent in November 2025.

Furthermore, in the month of December 2025, about 16.12 million subscribers submitted their requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 1,235.35 million at the end of November 2025 to 1251.47 million at the end of December 2025, since implementation of MNP.
