Google has finalised a landmark agreement with Apple to integrate its Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) model into iPhones to power Siri. The multi-year deal between the two companies was announced earlier this week.
Apple has been working for some time to roll out a fully capable AI-driven version of Siri but has so far faced delays in delivering the feature at scale. The company already has a partnership with OpenAI and has integrated ChatGPT in a limited manner across some Apple products.
However, the integration of Gemini represents a major strategic win for Google, strengthening its position in the intensifying competition with OpenAI. With more than two billion active Apple devices worldwide, the deal is expected to significantly expand Gemini’s user base and extend its reach and capabilities.
