Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has signed an agreement with the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board for utilisation of 500 km of optical ground wire (OPGW) telecom network.

This is in addition to PGCIL’s existing 350 km of OPGW laid on HPSEBL extra high voltage lines already being used in the state to boost its connectivity.

Thus, the total 850 km OPGW will enable Power Grid Telecom to reach remote areas of Kangra, Una, Mandi, Kullu, Bilaspur, Sirmour, Palampur, Sundernagar, Banikhet, Amb, Paonta Sahib, Nahan etc.

Through this OPGW network, telecom service providers will be able to provide uninterrupted mobile and internet services in the state.
