According to chief technology officer (CTO), Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi), the company is deploying artificial intelligence (AI) to protect customers from fraud. Drawing insights from banking partners, Vi has designed parallel solutions to safeguard both individual consumers and businesses because fraud prevention is among company’s top priorities. On the consumer side, the company’s focus is to block fraud across SMS, voice calls, and uniform resource locator (URL).

Meanwhile, on 5G rollout, he mentioned that Vi’s services are now live in 29 cities and will continue expanding to more locations. The company is seeing strong momentum, more 5G-enabled devices joining the network and a steady increase in data traffic. 5G dramatically boosts capacity, helping to manage surging data demand while optimising 4G investments. As 5G device penetration grows, data consumption naturally increases, directly driving monetisation.

He also highlighted that while advanced use cases like network slicing and augmented reality (AR)/ virtual reality (VR) are being piloted, large-scale commercial adoption is yet to take off. For now, the key benefits of 5G are enhanced mobile broadband and improved customer experience.
