Nvidia has agreed to invest $1 billion for a 2.9 per cent stake in Nokia, in a move aimed at transforming Nokia into an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven leader and preparing it for the shift from 5G Advanced to 6G networks.
Nvidia will invest in Nokia at a subscription price of $6.01, in a deal that will also integrate Nvidia-powered, commercial-grade AI-radio access network (RAN) products into Nokia’s RAN portfolio.
Further, Nokia, in a statement, noted that the companies will collaborate on AI-based networking solutions and explore opportunities to include Nokia’s data centre (DC) communications products in Nvidia’s future AI infrastructure roadmap.
Nokia currently uses Marvell chips in several of its offerings. Nokia provides equipment enabling connectivity within and between DCs, and has recently benefited from rising demand driven by increased use of AI applications.
As part of the announcement, T-Mobile will work with Nokia and Nvidia to advance and test AI-RAN technologies under the broader 6G research and development initiative. Trials are expected to begin in 2026, focusing on validating real-world performance improvements and efficiency gains.
Meanwhile, Dell Technologies is supplying its PowerEdge servers for Nokia’s AI-RAN solution, supporting no-touch software upgrades and low-touch silicon upgrades to ensure a smooth evolution from 5G to 5G Advanced and eventually 6G.
