Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) is reportedly collaborating with Indian telecom equipment makers such as Tejas Networks, Himachal Futuristic Communications Limited (HFCL), and Hindustan Computers Limited Technologies (HCLTech) to cut costs, speed up network rollouts, and localise its 4G and 5G infrastructure.

Vi has begun trialling 4G and 5G wireless equipment developed by Tejas Networks in one of its operating circles and could consider commercial orders based on the trial’s performance results.

According to industry sources, Vi has already been using Tejas’s packet and optical transmission gear and routers to strengthen its backhaul network and is now scaling up order volumes significantly. Beyond Tejas, Vi is expanding its collaboration with other Indian technology firms as well. HCLTech has been chosen to deliver self-optimising network (SON) solutions, while HFCL has secured a contract to supply internet protocol (IP)/ multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) routers for Vi’s upcoming 5G rollout, joining several multinational vendors that already serve the telecom operator across multiple circles.
