The minister of state for Communications and Rural Development said the centre is working to strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI) governance framework and aims to set a global benchmark for responsible AI practices. He emphasised that effective AI governance will be vital to addressing bias, protecting privacy, and ensuring transparency in algorithms, especially in critical sectors such as healthcare, finance, and justice.

Highlighting the Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) Digital Intelligence Platform, he said the system is using AI to combat telecom-related fraud and has been effective in curbing such activities. He also pointed to the IndiaAI Mission, with an outlay of over Rs 100 billion, which aims to promote AI that is fair, explainable, transparent, and inclusive.

The minister noted that India, in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is pioneering AI-native networks — the foundation of the 6G era — where AI will be deeply integrated into the core of network operations. These next-generation mobile networks are envisioned to be autonomous, sustainable, and inclusive.

Citing market studies, he cautioned that AI-driven automation could also pose risks to employment, underscoring the need to balance innovation with social and economic safeguards.
