According to the union minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, India’s satellite communications (satcom) sector is set for growth as regulatory frameworks are being finalised and licensing is expected to begin.

The minister noted that the satcom market in India could double over the next couple of years. With three satcom licences already issued, he expressed confidence that the segment will scale rapidly.

He also highlighted India’s proactive stance in the global race toward 6G technology.

Further, while the timeline is guided by international bodies such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Security Testing Policy Board (STPB), 6G “standards and protocols” are expected to be finalised by 2027-28, with execution including equipment and chip manufacturing targeted around 2030.
