The Quad countries, comprising the US, Australia, Japan, and India, have discussed steps to secure and expand underwater communication cables, amid growing concerns of sabotage and cyberattacks. Most of the internet communication globally is routed through submarine cables, making them critical to connectivity and economic growth. Further, India alone accounts for nearly one fifth of the total global traffic.

In their meeting earlier this month, Quad foreign ministers identified the security of submarine cables as a key area for cooperation.
