According to data by Ookla, India now ranks 26th globally in average internet connection speeds, marking a significant improvement in its digital infrastructure. This marks a dramatic jump of 93 places from September 2022, when India stood at the 119th position. The leap is attributed largely to the country’s rapid 5G rollout and expanding network infrastructure.

The country recorded a median download speed of 136.53 Mbps during the April to June 2025 quarter, narrowing the gap with leading markets like the US and China. By comparison, the US holds the 13th position with a median download speed of 176.75 Mbps, while China ranks 8th with 207.98 Mbps. The data underscores India’s accelerating digital momentum and improving global competitiveness in mobile broadband performance.
