The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has imposed a penalty of Rs 101,000 on Bharti Airtel for non-compliance with subscriber verification norms. In an exchange filing, the company confirmed that the fine was issued for violations of the DoT’s guidelines on customer verification.
According to the license agreement, telecom operators must ensure proper verification of customers before onboarding them as subscribers and are required to follow the DoT’s prescribed procedures. To ensure adherence, the DoT conducts periodic audits of Customer Application Forms (CAFs).
During the April audit, Airtel was found in violation of these verification norms, prompting the department to impose the penalty. Airtel has further stated that it will not challenge the fine and will proceed with the payment
