Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea Limited, and Bharti Airtel have reportedly jointly sought permission to conduct a survey of the upcoming Noida International Airport to deploy in-building solutions (IBS) for seamless telecom connectivity at the airport, without involving third-party infrastructure providers.
The telcos also stated that, under the Telecommunications Act, 2023 and the Right of Way (RoW) Rules, 2024, public authorities overseeing access to public spaces are required to grant licensed telecom operators RoW for network deployment, without imposing charges beyond the prescribed RoW fees.
The telcos noted that while IBS installations at public sites rarely generate significant revenue, they are prepared to absorb the costs to ensure consistent and reliable coverage. They added that a coordinated approach between the three players would ensure efficient execution with minimal disruptions.
