Vipul Nagpal, Founder and Managing Director, Orient Cables
Vipul Nagpal is the Founder and Managing Director of Orient Cables, a company that has been at the forefront of cable manufacturing for more than two decades. He brings a rich understanding of the technical and strategic aspects of the sector, and under his leadership, the company has expanded into multiple verticals, staying ahead of market trends. His professional career began in technology consulting in the US, where he worked for two years before returning to India to establish Orient Cables in 2002.
Nagpal’s present responsibilities include overseeing new product and infrastructure developments, financial controls and strategic sales, and setting ambitious targets for the company’s future. “One has to innovate and adapt to changing business environments with more competition and demanding customers,” he notes.
Nagpal anticipates the increased fiberisation of mobile towers, the proliferation of 5G and heightened demand for telecom equipment. He also highlights the potential of satellite broadband technologies in bridging connectivity gaps in rural areas, offering alternatives to traditional infrastructure projects. Despite the promising prospects, Nagpal acknowledges the challenges that lie ahead. According to him, global policy uncertainties and the trend of reverse globalisation pose significant considerations for the industry. Additionally, Orient Cables has ventured into newer verticals, requiring strategic market expansion and adaptation. However, he remains confident in navigating these challenges, backed by a robust foundation and a dedicated team.
As a leader, Nagpal is known for his patient yet firm management style. He believes in fostering a customer-centric approach throughout the organisation while maintaining high expectations for performance and growth. His ability to balance technical expertise with strategic decision-making has been instrumental in Orient Cables’ success.
Nagpal’s academic journey laid a strong foundation for his entrepreneurial pursuits. He holds a BCom (Hons) degree from the Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University, and a master’s in International Business from the Delhi School of Economics. Furthering his expertise, he pursued an MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the US.
Beyond his professional life, Nagpal has a passion for music, playing the guitar and singing. He is an adventure enthusiast and regularly engages in hiking and skiing. Family remains a cornerstone of his life; his wife is a homemaker and the anchor of their household, while their two sons are carving their own academic and professional paths.
