The government of Odisha has approved a tailored incentive package for RIR Power Electronics Limited to set up India’s inaugural Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing facility in Bhubaneswar. The project, which entails an investment of approximately Rs 6.18 billion, is expected to be completed within two years.

Notably, the groundbreaking ceremony for this facility took place on September 7, 2024, at the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) Park in Infovalley, Bhubaneswar. The new facility will specialise in SiC-based devices, serving sectors such as electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy, railways, and defense, and is anticipated to generate around 750 jobs.

According to the government, this facility will mark the establishment of India’s first compound semiconductor fabrication unit, significantly boosting domestic manufacturing capabilities with advanced processes like epitaxial layer deposition and packaging.
