As per the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bharti Airtel Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) lost a whopping 1.13 million 1.50 million subscribers respectively, while Reliance Jio gained 1.21 million subscribers month-on-month during November 2024. Meanwhile, the wireless subscriber base of Airtel and Vi shrank to 384.27 million and 208.98 million respectively. In addition, Jio gained a user base of 461.23 million.
Separately, Jio further consolidated its market leadership in the wireline space in November 2024. TRAI data showed that Jio added 0.61 million wireline users, boosting its landline user base to 16.29 million. Meanwhile, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) lost 0.009 million wireline users. In addition, Airtel added 0.14 million users, boosting its wireline user base to around 9.68 million.
Further, the month of November 2024 witnessed Airtel narrowing its customer market share to 33.45 per cent (from 33.50 in October 2024). Similarly, Vi’s narrowed further to 18.19 per cent as against 18.30 per cent the previous month while Jio’s market share widened at 40.15 per cent from 39.99 in the previous month.
Besides, TRAI data showed that Vi lost customers 1.09 million customers in rural India. Meanwhile, Airtel and Jio gained 0.486 million and 0.747 million in these geographies. The data released by the regulator also showed that overall wireless tele-density decreased marginally to 81.59 per cent in November 2024 from 84.46 per cent in October 2024.
During the month of November, 2024, 12.79 million subscribers submitted their requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 1052.56 million at the end of October 2024 to 1065.35 million at the end of November 2024.
