The government has informed the parliament that the government has blocked 0.67 million SIM cards and 0.13 million international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) numbers flagged by law enforcement authorities to curb cybercrime.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, minister of state for Home Affairs stated that the central government, in collaboration with telecom service providers (TSPs), has implemented a mechanism to detect and block international spoofed calls that appear to originate from Indian mobile numbers. TSPs have been directed to block such fraudulent incoming calls.

He highlighted the citizen financial cyber fraud reporting and management system under the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), launched in 2021 to enable prompt reporting of financial fraud and prevent fraudulent transactions. To date, over Rs 34.31 billion has been safeguarded across more than 0.99 million complaints, he added.
