India has dropped four places in Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index for mobile speeds, falling from 16th to 20th rank in August 2024. Despite this decline, 5G has significantly contributed to India’s mobile speed improvements over the past two years.
The median mobile download speed in India was reported at 96.38 Mbps, well above the global median of 55.80 Mbps. Future enhancements in mobile speeds are anticipated as BSNL upgrades its networks to 4G and Vodafone Idea Limited rolls out 5G services.
In the fixed broadband segment, India improved its position, climbing two spots to reach 84th rank, with an average download speed of 63.79 Mbps.
The UAE continues to lead the rankings, with an average download speed of 398.51 Mbps, followed by Qatar at 344.34 Mbps.
