In order to expand its 4G coverage in Karnataka, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched 4G in Ulloor village in the Udipi district. The first BSNL site of 4G in the state went live a few months back.
BSNL plans to establish 672 new 4G towers in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts as part of the Government of India’s 4G saturation project.
This initiative aims to enhance connectivity in rural areas, where BSNL users can benefit from lower rates compared to private telecom operators. Currently, 40 out of 57 towers in Dakshina Kannada and 30 out of 36 in Udupi are operational. The project is funded through the rebranded Universal Service Obligation Fund, now known as Digital Bharat Nidhi.
Additionally, BSNL is also looking to expand 4G services in Mumbai and Delhi, where it operates under the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) brand.
