Bharti Airtel has completed the deployment of additional 5 MHz of spectrum on the 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands in Assam. Further, additional 5MHz spectrum has also been deployed on the 2100 band in Northeast.

This additional spectrum, acquired during the auctions held in July 2024, will give a boost to Airtel’s 5G/4G network capacities. It will improve and enhance data speeds and provide significantly better coverage inside homes and buildings both in urban and rural areas. The deployment will also allow Airtel to offer wider coverage along the highways and rail routes as well as increase its footprint in rural areas as the demand for connectivity continues to rise exponentially.

Commenting on the announcement, Rajnish Verma, chief executive officer, Assam and Northeast said, “Airtel’s commitment to superior network performance is unwavering. With the integration of this new spectrum, customers across the state can now enjoy enhanced call connectivity, faster data speeds and an overall improved performance. We remain committed to Assam-Northeast and will continue to invest in technologies that will help elevate service experience for our customers.”

Airtel, to its credit, holds the largest pool of mid-band spectrum. With its diverse spectrum holdings across the 900, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz and 2300 MHz bands, the company is well positioned to serve the growing demand for high-speed data services with 5G and 4G network. It has also recently started the re-farming of mid-band spectrum for 5G to meet the growing data demands.
