In a bid to address the growing congestion on its network, Bharti Airte has launched a Wi-Fi application called Hangouts. The application will allow shifting data traffic away from the cellular network to help decongest it and improve services.
Earlier, Vodafone India had also started offering a similar application.
These applications require a one-time sign-in and can be used in Wi-Fi zones that offer data services through unlicensed or freely available spectrum.
Airtel’s application currently works within the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) at all Cafe Coffee Day outlets and some hotels and hospitals. The operator has Wi-Fi hotspots in about 100 locations in Delhi-NCR area.
