Telecom operators Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular, Telewings Communications, Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited, Reliance Communications, Videocon Telecom, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) have announced the launch of full mobile number portability (MNP) on July 03, 2015.

Under MNP, a customer will be able to choose a different operator in the new circle without changing the mobile number. Customers who want to avail of MNP can apply for it on a company?s website or seek it through customer care services or via SMS. Some companies promise that MNP can be done within 24 hours of the porting request.

Operators have been offering benefits to retain users, such as the option of transferring a prepaid balance or carrying forward any unbilled/billed amount in the case of post-paid services. Airtel, for instance, is offering special offers, including faster processing of porting requests, free incoming on roaming, balance transfers and carry forward options. Meanwhile, Reliance Communications has stated that it will also be offering attractive plans for prepaid and post-paid users, as well as those porting in from other networks to ensure the transition is seamless.
