According to research firm, IHS, the global voice over IP (VoIP) and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) equipment market stood at $1.3 billion in the first quarter of 2015 witnessing a growth of 29 per cent.

The year-over-year growth in VoIP and IMS equipment sales in the first quarter of 2015 was driven by high demand for core IMS solutions and voice application servers. HIS states that all major geographical regions witnessed growth in VoIP and IMS equipment market, however, highest market growth was reported by Latin America, where VoIP and IMS equipment market grew by 88 per cent.

Meanwhile, in 2014, VoIP and IMS equipment sales grew by 64 per cent and stood at $4.24 billion, powered by the network transformation projects undertaken by mobile and wireline operators.

Going forward, the research firm expects voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) to be the key growth driver for global VoIP and IP IMS equipment market as operators plan to launch IMS networks for VoWi-Fi.
