South Korea’s fixed line and broadband operator KT Corporation is planning to submit an application to the country’s telecom regulator seeking approval to undertake a merger with its mobile division, KTF Corporation. If approved, the merger could be completed by the end of June 2009. The KT-KTF merger is expected to be the first of several in South Korea as operators look to consolidate subsidiaries to streamline operations and increase operational efficiencies. Wireless operator SK Telecom is considering a merger with SK Broadband, while the LG Group’s three telecom companies ?? LG Dacom, LG Telecom and LG Powercomm ?? are expected to be merged as well.
