The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has stated that it would wait for the Telecom regulatory Authority of India?s (TRAI) regulations on over-the-top (OTT) players before taking a stand on whether the actions of the telecom and Internet firms amount to unfair ways. Recently, CCI had started looking into whether telecom operators and Internet service providers are extending preferential treatment to select mobile applications and websites.

TRAI recently floated a consultation paper for regulatory framework on over-the-top (OTT) services such as Internet-based calling and messaging services and net neutrality. Meanwhile, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is presently framing its own report on net neutrality. The DoT report is expected by the end-May 2015, while TRAI will come out with its suggestions after reviewing comments on its consultation paper.
