According to GSM Association (GSMA), the user base of broadband services in India is expected grow to 250 million connections by 2017. It has further calculated that the total 3G and 4G broadband connections in India stood at 88 million by the quarter ended September 2014.
Also, the industry association expects favourable policy decisions to take place in the near future to support the increase in broadband penetration in the country. GSMA believes that the Digital India initiative, which focuses on facilitating broadband connectivity to remote villages across the country, is another step in this regard. The Digital India programme aims to provide broadband connectivity to 250,000 gram panchayats and support the delivery of government services to the citizens.
Also, in order to support the growth in broadband services, it is necessary to create an affordable ecosystem with greater availability of spectrum at reasonable costs.
